It's My First Time!

What to expect

When you arrive at the center, we will briefly discuss the intake form you completed and saved online ahead of time. (you will receive this electronic form via email from Massagebook once your scheduled appointment is confirmed). We’ll talk about why you’re coming in for a massage and what your goals are for the session. Are you having pain? Do you need to relax?

We’ll show you the massage room and walk you through the massage process. We'll leave the room so you may undress (to your comfort level), get on the massage table and get comfortable under the draping sheet & blanket.

Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, what you wear it is entirely up to you. Simply put: undergarments can be left on or taken off. You will be properly draped throughout the massage. Only the arm/leg etc that is being worked will be uncovered and then re-draped.

Depending on the issues we plan to address, we may start the massage with a relaxing head, face, neck and shoulder routine, or maybe it'll be your back we need address right away instead. Each session can be different.

I typically use a light jojoba oil with therapeutic grade Lavender essential oil to assist in the relaxation process and allow your muscles to be massaged without causing friction to the skin. Alternatively we have unscented oil or lotion for skin sensitivity or allergies so we can be sure to select the right one for you. Specific essential oils for certain conditions may be available at your request. Special blends do have an additional fee of $5 per session.

During the massage

It’s great if you can let your body relax and sink into the table. If I need to move your arms or legs, etc, I’ll do the work! This takes practice.

It’s really important for you to tell let us know if any massage techniques used cause too much discomfort. Pain is not okay. There may be a certain level of discomfort and ‘good ache’ if we’re working on a problem area. It’s important that you tell us about that, too, so we can tailor the massage to be most effective without causing injury.

We’ll check in with you as we go, but please speak up if you become too warm or too cool, if you are not comfortable on the table, need another pillow, or if you just don't like the music! Oh and feel free to bring in any music of your choice. Remember this is YOUR time to enjoy. And if there are any parts you'd rather not be touched (ie feet can be ticklish) then please feel free to say "no way"...Many folks leave socks on as a little reminder not to touch.

After the massage

You should expect to feel mellow and relaxed after your massage. If we addressed particular pain issues, you may immediately feel a reduction in pain, or it may take a day or two before you feel that relief. If you are ever very sore following a massage, (it’s rare, but it can happen) please give us a call so we can discuss the best course of action, and make notes to adjust your next massage.

After your first appointment you can schedule online anytime through Massagebook.
